On 26th May 2018, I accomplished the biggest running challenge of my life. I ran the width of his home state Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. That means I ran 55 kilometers (approximately 35 miles) from the shore of the North Sea to the shore of the Baltic Sea. That's also why it's called North- Baltic Sea Ultra Run (#NBSUltra).
The furthest distance I ever ran before was a marathon in 2005. Since then, I jogged here and there to stay in shape and not get fat. In spring 2017, I started to continuously train in preparation for the 1st Flensburg liebt dich half marathon in June of that year.
Although I already cycled across Denmark and the length of Germany, this challenge was more tough to my body and mind than the ones before. To accomplish this challenge an adequate physical preparation was needed. Since I accomplished the half marathon I continued to run, work out and increased my running distance. Just in the previous six months I ran more than 1,000 tracked kilometers and many more untracked kilometers. |

Starting point of this challenge was Dagebüll Mole (right at the edge of the pier) at 10:15am. The optimistic goal was to arrive at the Flensburger Hafenspitze 6-7 hours later. In the end it took me approximately 8 hours.

1. Instagram - On here you'll find the updates I made throughout the run. Simply connect with me or search for #NBSUltra.
2. Runtastic - On here you'll find more information about the path I took and some other statistics.
Places I came through were: Dagebüll Mole (Start), Dagebüll Kirche, Maasbüll, Risum, Leck, Sprakebüll, Bärenshöft, Schafflund, Wallsbüll, Unaften, Handewitt, Villekula Flensburg, Hafenspitze Flensburg (Finish).
This challenge was also used to raise awareness and money for the Villekula project in Flensburg. Villekula is a gardening project which allows kids to learn about the whole process of how to garden, harvest and prepare healthy meals. Unfortunately, this project currently doesn't have any direct access to water which makes their work more than challenging. That's why I support Villekulas' project to build a fountain on the Villekula land through this challenge.
So if you enjoyed following my North- Baltic Sea Ultra Run, please make a donation for this wonderful project. Here you can find all information how you can support Villekula as well as their bank information. Purpose (Verwendungszweck) for a donation should be "Brunnnen NBSUltra". Cheers!
